S-information 163-1 is a proposal for a future international standard on RFID in libraries, and it will help libraries to benefit from RFID-technology and also to take part in the national and international loan cooperation.
The Data Model consists of a mandatory part with extension possibilities, partly with commonly defined data elements and partly with individual data elements. The model also describes what value a particular data element can have and guidelines for the physical coding of the RFID-tag. Additionally, the Data Model gives information about the technical standards on which RFID-solutions for libraries, including library system interface, should be based.
The publication appeals to all who are interested in RFID-technology, primarily people employed in IT-departments in libraries and also coordinating government employees.
