Digital rights and FileOpen

Danish Standards Foundation applies a DRM (Digital Rights Management) system to protect our copyright in standards sold electronically.

In order to open electronic documents purchased from Danish Standards Foundation, you therefore need to install the FileOpen program on your PC. The program is enclosed when you purchase an electronic document. You only need to install the program the first time you receive a document electronically. Furthermore, you need to have installed Adobe Reader® or equivalent.

FileOpen is a plug-in used for reading encrypted files. It has been certified by Adobe ® and poses no risk to the security of your computer.

Installation of FileOpen

When you have received the document, save it locally on your PC - not on a server. If FileOpen is not installed on your PC, you will be informed the first time you open the document that one or more Adobe components are required for its correct functioning. Click 'Accept' and Adobe® will install the missing components. You may also retrieve FileOpen in the right hand box.

Rights

When you purchase an electronic document from Danish Standards Foundation, you buy a license to use the document with the following rights:

• the document will be watermarked with business name and address
• the document is locked for copying of text
• printing of the document is restricted to 5 copies
• the document can be stored in one computer. It is possible, however, to move the license, e.g. if you change your pc

The use of FileOpen does not alter the copyright of Danish Standards Foundation in a purchased standard.

Unlock Document License

If you need to move your license to another computer, you can use the Unlock Document License program. This may be necessary if you change your PC. You should also make sure to unlock and move your license when planning to:

• reinstall or upgrade your operating system;
• perform a BIOS upgrade;
• install or replace essential hardware;
• operate from other types of net connections.

It is important to unlock your license before moving the document. For a detailed description of how to use the Unlock Document License, please read the guidance in the right hand box.

Unlock Document License only works with Windows.

Danish Standards Foundation will provide support and clarify any queries you may have. Please note that we do not provide support regarding the installation of FileOpen in Linux and Mac systems.
