Workshop on Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) – Deployment at airports

Join us in a workshop on “Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) – Deployment at airports” and engage in discussions about guidance’s to airports for an appropriated and holistic consideration of SAF deployment.

Workshop on Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) – Deployment at airports

Overview

With Copenhagen Airport (CPH) as a lighthouse, the aim of the lighthouse project, Alight, is to introduce sustainable aviation solutions for the future. Alight is a Horizon 2020 Project with focusses upon infrastructure and organization for sustainable aviation fuel and renewable energy sources for ground activities in support of carbon neutral airports by 2050.

The project will bring forward the necessary solutions, knowledge, guidelines and best practice handbooks supporting an efficient airport paradigm shift towards zero emission aviation and airport operation. Fellow airports will replicate the example set by Copenhagen Airport.

The project is organized with 2 main work streams:

  • Work Stream A: Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)
  • Work Stream B: Smart Energy Airport

On April 8, 2024, the workshop on “Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF)” consists of an exciting and interactive one-day event, during which participants will share common challenges and needs to identify how to support the deployment of SAF solutions at airports.

The aim of this workshop is, thus, to inform the audience about ALIGHT progress and outcomes, and to discuss and collect 'Recommendations' from the participating stakeholders towards delivering effective guidance’s to airports for appropriated and holistic consideration of SAF deployment.

The opening session 1 will set the scene with EU objectives and concrete examples from ALIGHT implementation of SAF at Copenhagen and Roma airports.

Session 2 will concentrate on exchange with the stakeholders towards drafting recommendation in support of deployment and decision making by airports, including ensuring efficient access to SAF infrastructures.

Finally, session 3 will be centered on standardization in support of SAF deployment, including about data distribution of environmental characteristics, and how to report efficiently these data in a context where responsibilities for reporting are in the hands of different stakeholders.

The wrap up session and conclusion will synthesize the outcomes of the workshop and identify actions and next steps for a quick and smooth deployment of SAF.

The workshop is hosted at the premises of CEN-CENELEC Meeting Centre, Rue de la Science 23, 1040 Brussels, Belgium.

You will gain

  • The opportunity to share common challenges and needs to identify how to support the deployment of SAF solutions at airports.
  • Insight into the Alight progress and outcomes
  • A chance to engage in discussions and collect 'recommendations' from the participating stakeholders that will help to provide effective guidance’s to airports for appropriated and holistic consideration of SAF deployment.

Audience

The workshop is targeted at airports, lighthouse SAF and Sustainable airports related projects, and all stakeholders concerned by the SAF value chain, from production, storage, distribution to end-uses, as well as Standardization related experts and national standardization bodies.
