ISO 45011 – Occupational health and safety management for SMEs

ISO 45011 is a potential forthcoming standard providing guidance for small organisations wishing to improve their work environment in a simple and effective way. It is aimed at smaller companies that want a straightforward approach to occupational health and safety without a full management system such as ISO 45001.

What is ISO 45011?

ISO 45011, Basic requirements and guidance for small organisations, is a proposal for a forthcoming standard that provides core requirements and practical guidance for small organisations wishing to improve their work environment in a simple, proportionate and effective way. The standard is primarily aimed at companies with fewer than 50 employees, but can be used by any organisation seeking a manageable approach to occupational health and safety work without establishing a full management system such as ISO 45001.

ISO 45011 describes how small organisations can work systematically with occupational health and safety by following a structured, easy-to-use framework built around seven core actions – from management commitment and employee involvement to risk assessment, emergency preparedness, hazard control, training and ongoing evaluation.
