ISO 45010 is an international standard that provides guidance on managing matters related to menstruation, menstrual health and menopause in the workplace. The standard can be used as standalone guidance or integrated into an existing occupational health and safety management system.
The standard has been developed as a supplement to the occupational health and safety management standard ISO 45001, but can be used by any organisation wishing to address menopause and menstrual health in the workplace. It can be applied across all sectors and types of organisations, including small and medium-sized enterprises, and is relevant for, among others, managers, HR, occupational health and safety organisations, consultants and occupational health and safety professionals.
The standard provides guidance and concrete examples of what organisations should be aware of in order to increase awareness and knowledge, develop competencies among managers and employees, ensure confidentiality and respect, support recovery and retention, and create an open and supportive workplace culture. This freely available guide offers support for dialogue, reflection and concrete actions in the workplace, while also highlighting the importance of accounting for individual differences and tailoring solutions to the specific situation.
Drawing on research and the forthcoming international standard ISO 45010, the guide offers recommendations that work in practice.
The guide has been developed in collaboration between Danish Standards' committee for occupational health and safety and KISO (Women in Healthy Transition, University of Copenhagen), and is part of KISO's knowledge portal on menopause.
