Alignment of Global Greenhouse Gas Standards

Watch the recording of this joint Nordic webinar hosted by Danish Standards, Standard Norway, Swedish Institute for Standards, and Finnish Standards — and learn about the scope, purpose, and planned approach of the new partnership between ISO and the GHG Protocol.

About the webinar

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) – a joint initiative of World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) – are the two leading global frameworks for GHG accounting.

Until now, their standards have been developed separately, with different scopes and approaches to verification. ISO’s 1406X series forms the basis for legislation, regulation, and verification in many industries, while the GHG Protocol underpins major sustainability and disclosure initiatives worldwide.

ISO and the GHG Protocol have now launched a landmark collaboration to align their methodologies into a single, unified international framework for greenhouse gas accounting and reporting. By bringing together the ISO 1406X series and GHG Protocol standards, the partnership merges technical rigor with policy relevance and practical usability. The goal is to improve global consistency and comparability, strengthening the foundation for credible climate action.
